Limit States

1 - Ultimate Limit State-ULS

Strength limit states related to human and/or structural safety. For simplification, the states prior to the collapse of the structure are referred to as the strength limit states.
Need to check:
* Static unbalance (stability in position) of the structure or any part of the structure recognized as a rigid body (EQU)
* Internal damage or excessive deformation of the structure or structural part (STR)
* Excessive deterioration or deformation of the ground (GEO)
* Fatigue damage of structure or parts of structure (FAT)

2 - Serviceability Limit State-SLS

Limit state related to the function of the structure or structural parts during usage time, human comfort, the external appearance of the building.
* Deformation: affect the appearance; comfort for human use, structural performance (including machine function), damage to building finishes or non-structural parts
* Vibration: make people uncomfortable, limit the effectiveness of the structure
* Damage that can adversely affect the external appearance, durability and usability of the structure

Material Properties

Tensile strength: the amount of stress that a substance can take before becoming structurally deformed.
Ductility: the ability to change shape on the application of force without resulting in a fracture.
Malleability: the ability to be hammered or rolled into thin sheets.
Durability: the ability to withstand wear, pressure, or damage.
Conductivity: the ability to transmit heat or electricity.
Luster: the shininess or reflectiveness of the surface.
Rust resistance: the ability to resist corrosion or oxidation.
